Skin Tag/Thread Vein Removal
Diathermy
Diathermy is a procedure that uses a high-frequency electrical current delivered through a fine needle. This generates heat in the targeted tissue. The process may be used in the management of certain benign skin lesions such as skin tags or small visible blood vessels (thread veins).
The treatment works by cauterising the targeted area. Depending on the type and size of the lesion, more than one session may be required. Your practitioner will advise you on the most appropriate approach during your consultation.
After the procedure, the treated area may appear red and swollen, and a small scab can form as part of the normal healing process. Side effects and risks vary depending on the individual but can include changes in pigmentation, scarring, or infection.
Important: Not all skin lesions are suitable for diathermy, and any lesion must be assessed by a qualified health professional prior to treatment to confirm suitability and rule out malignancy.

Diathermy is a procedure that uses a high-frequency electrical current, delivered through a fine needle, to generate heat in targeted tissue. This may be used in the management of certain benign skin lesions, such as skin tags or small visible blood vessels (thread veins).
The electrical current produces heat, which cauterises the targeted tissue or blood vessels. This process may reduce the appearance of the lesion over time.
Diathermy may be used for some skin tags and thread veins. All lesions must be assessed by a qualified health professional before treatment to confirm they are benign and suitable for removal.
Not all skin types or conditions are suitable for diathermy. Your practitioner will assess your medical history and skin to determine suitability.
The number of sessions varies. Some skin tags may be treated in a single session, while thread veins may require multiple treatments. Your practitioner will advise on a plan tailored to your needs.
Possible side effects can include redness, swelling, scabbing, pigmentation changes, or in rare cases, scarring or infection. Your practitioner will discuss these in detail before treatment.
